As Secretary of State, Marco Rubio prioritizes the “America First” policy

During his inauguration on Tuesday, U.S. Senator Marco Rubio of Florida, the first member of President Donald Trump’s cabinet, stressed that American needs will come first in U.S. foreign policy under Trump.

Rubio is a strong supporter of Israel and a China hawk, and just hours after Trump took office on Monday, the U.S. Senate overwhelmingly approved him. This week was anticipated to see further votes on more Trump candidates.

Rubio stated, “His (Trump’s) primary promise when it comes to foreign policy is that the priority of the United States Department of State will be the United States, it will be furthering the national interest of this country,” following his inauguration by John D. Vance, the vice president of the United States.

Under Trump, he said, “the promotion of peace” will be another foreign policy objective. Naturally, peace via strength, peace, and always without compromising our principles.

Republican Rubio, 53, served for several years on the Senate intelligence and international relations committees. He is a strong supporter of Israel and a scathing critic of China.

He is a Cuban immigrant’s son who has advocated for harsh policies against the island’s Communist regime and its supporters, particularly Venezuela’s government under President Nicolas Maduro.

He pledged a strong foreign policy centered on American interests at his confirmation hearing and cautioned that action must be taken to prevent the United States from being increasingly dependent on China.

The end of the fighting in Ukraine should be U.S. policy, Rubio added. According to him, both Moscow and Kyiv would need to make compromises in order to strike a deal to end the conflict, and Ukraine would also need to abandon its objective of reclaiming all of the land that Russia has stolen over the last ten years.

The nation’s top diplomat, Rubio, is the first person of Hispanic descent.
