After a poor run of results, Porto parted ways with Bruno

Porto confirmed on Monday that they had sacked coach Vitor Bruno after losing back-to-back games against Gil Vicente and the lowly Nacional.

After 18 games, the two-time Champions League champions are presently ranked third in the Primeira Liga standings.

After seven seasons in which he won 11 championships, including three Portuguese league crowns, Sergio Conceicao left the team. Bruno was brought in in June 2024 to take his position.

Along with Sporting, who lost Ruben Amorim to Manchester United in November, and Benfica, who sacked German manager Roger Schmidt after two campaigns in August, Porto is the 12th club to fire a manager this season.

Bruno’s relationship with the players degenerated after Porto’s 1-0 loss to Sporting in the League Cup semi-final, and midfielder Pepe criticized the coach on social media.

On Thursday, Porto will play Olympiacos in the Europa League.

The enlarged 2025 Club World Cup will be held in the United States from June 15 to July 13 and 32 clubs, including Porto, have qualified.
