Scotland and Manchester United hero Law passes away at age 84

The Premier League team announced on Friday that Denis Law, a former forward for Manchester United and Scotland, has passed away at the age of 84.

We regret to inform you of the untimely death of our father, Denis Law. According to a family statement released by United, “He fought a tough battle but finally he is now at peace.”

“We want to express our gratitude to everyone who has helped with his care and well-being, both recently and in the past.

We are aware of how much love and support he received from others, and that love always made a difference. Thank you.

After starting his career with Huddersfield Town, Law established himself at United, where he played for 11 years and won the league titles in 1965 and 1967 as well as the European Cup in 1968.

After Wayne Rooney (253) and Bobby Charlton (249), he became United’s third-highest scorer in the team’s history with 237 goals in 404 games.

In 1964, Law—also referred to as “The King”—became the only Scotsman to win both the European Player of the Year and the Ballon d’Or.

“Everyone at Manchester United is mourning the loss of Denis Law, the King of the Stretford End, who has passed away, aged 84,” the club said in a statement.

“As one of the club’s best and most adored players, he will always be honored. He was a generation’s idol because of his skill, passion, and love for the game. He was the ultimate goal scorer.

“The family and many friends of Denis have our sincerest sympathies. His legacy will endure forever.

With 30 goals in 55 games, the former Manchester City and Torino player is still Scotland’s all-time top scorer. He made his debut for his country in 1958 at the age of 18.

On the team’s X account, City said, “Everyone in Manchester, including everyone at City, is mourning with you.” “Denis, rest in peace. During this trying moment, our thoughts are with Denis’ family and friends.

Law disclosed that he was diagnosed with vascular dementia and Alzheimer’s in 2021.
