Officials say 67 cholera cases have been reported in Uganda
Since the illness outbreak was declared in the country’s north on January 7, the number of cholera cases in Uganda has increased to 67, the Ministry of Health reported on Friday.
Seven of the 67 instances are laboratory proven, while the remaining cases are still suspected, according to Daniel Kyabayinze, the Ministry of Health’s director of public health, who spoke to media.
Kyabayinze stated that one fatality has been recorded out of the 67, all of them were reported in the northern border area of Lamwo. Of these, 21 are still in the hospital, while the others have been treated and released.
According to him, there is a suspicion that the illness was brought into the nation from nearby nations.
“The disease has spread through poor hygiene and using contaminated water in areas which have low coverage of latrines and toilets,” Kyabayinze stated.
“One person has died of cholera thus far. A lot of rehydration will be necessary during the therapy. “Once they suspect cases, we urge people to report to treatment centers, boil their water, and practice good hygiene,” he continued.
According to the World Health Organization, cholera is a very dangerous illness that can result in severe acute watery diarrhea and severe dehydration.
