In Nigeria, a fuel tanker truck explosion claims at least 60 lives
A gasoline tanker truck crashed in northern Nigeria on Saturday, pouring gasoline that exploded, killing at least 60 people and injuring others, according to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).
A similar explosion in Jigawa state in October claimed 147 lives, making it one of the deadliest catastrophes in Africa’s most populous country. The accident in Niger state comes after that.
The majority of the casualties, according to Kumar Tsukwam, FRSC sector commander for Niger state, were poor locals who hurried to clean up the gasoline spill after the vehicle flipped.
“The tanker caught fire and engulfed another tanker. Tsukwam announced in a statement that 60 corpses have been retrieved from the location thus far.
