Gladiator star Djimon Hounsou says that despite his success, he is “struggles to make a living”

Djimon Hounsou is “struggling to make a living” in spite of his success in Hollywood..

He has claimed that he is “definitely underpaid” to this day, despite the fact that the 60-year-old actor began his career over 30 years ago and received Academy Award nominations for his roles in “In America” and “Blood Diamond.”

In an interview with CNN’s “African Voices Changemakers,” he revealed, “I continue to face financial difficulties.” I have been involved in the filmmaking industry for more than twenty years, and I have received two Oscar nominations and participated in numerous blockbuster films. Nevertheless, I continue to experience financial hardship. I am certainly undervalued.

The actor from “Gladiator” is of the opinion that he was not awarded the Oscar for “Amistad” in 1997 because the Academy did not consider it necessary to “pay him any respect” despite his strong performance on screen.

He stated, “I was nominated for the Golden Globe, but I was rejected for the Oscars due to their belief that I had recently arrived from the boat and was on the streets.”

“Despite my accomplishments, they just did not perceive me as an actor to whom they should show any respect.” The concept of diversity has yet to be fully achieved. Not in the near future will systemic racism undergo such a transformation.

Previously, the actor asserted that he must “prove” to executives why he is deserving of a higher salary than the amount he is frequently offered.

“I must continue to demonstrate the necessity of my compensation,” he stated to The Guardian.

“They always approach me with a complete low-ball: ‘We only have this much for the role, but we love you so much and we think you can bring so much.'”

“Viola Davis articulated it exquisitely.” She has received an Emmy, an Oscar, and a Tony, yet she remains unpaid.
