Former Cop Accused of Theft Faces Fresh Rape and Trafficking Charges
A former SafeSport investigator and former Allentown officer has been charged with rape, trafficking, and larceny, which has raised concerns about the vetting process.
A former police officer who was dismissed from his position as an investigator at the US Center for SafeSport due to allegations of theft during a drug raid has been detained once more. He is now facing charges of rape and sex trafficking.
According to a statement from the district attorney’s office, Jason Krasley, who was previously employed as an officer in Allentown, Pennsylvania, was apprehended on Friday and charged with felony rape and involuntary sexual servitude for offenses that were purportedly committed between 2011 and 2015 while he was still on the police force.
After departing the police force in 2021, Krasley joined the SafeSport Centre. However, he was terminated last year after allegations of his alleged involvement in the theft of $5,500 during a narcotics investigation surfaced.
The vetting processes at SafeSport, which is responsible for investigating sensitive cases of sexual abuse in Olympic and grassroots sports, are called into question by this recent arrest. The Denver-based organization, which was established in 2017, employs investigators, including former police officers, to manage misconduct cases.
In a statement to The Associated Press, Ju’Riese Colon, CEO of SafeSport, expressed her indignation over the allegations, stating, “I am appalled that a former staff member has been accused of such heinous acts in his previous role as a police officer.”
“Our primary concern is the protection of athletes, which is why we require all employees to adhere to the highest standards.”
The organization has commenced a third-party audit of the cases Krasley managed during his tenure. In one instance, a case that he was responsible for was reassigned following his theft-related arrest. Following the arrest, another claimant requested that their case be reopened. SafeSport informed them that the matter was already under review.
Krasley is also accused of felony rape and involuntary sexual servitude, as well as a misdemeanor allegation of criminal coercion, intimidation of a witness, and involuntary deviate sexual intercourse.
Krasley is also named in a whistleblower lawsuit filed by two Allentown police officers last year, which alleges pervasive malfeasance within the department.
In a related development, Kevin Weaver, a current Allentown police officer, was also detained on Friday and charged with felony rape and involuntary sexual servitude. Weaver has been placed on administrative leave until further investigation is conducted.
