Light aircraft crash-lands in coastal Kenya, resulting in the deaths of at least three individuals on the ground

The police have verified that a light aircraft crash-landed on a roadside in Malindi, a town on the north coast of Kenya, on Friday, resulting in the deaths of three individuals on the ground.

According to Joseph Ongwae, the Kilifi County Police Commander, the aircraft, 5Y-CDC, had departed from Malindi Airport on its way to Wilson Airport in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya. However, it encountered mechanical issues and crashed approximately two kilometers outside the airport at approximately 2:52 p.m., local time (1152 GMT).

Ongwae stated that the aircraft, which was manned by a pilot, an instructor, and a student, all of whom survived, landed on numerous motorcycles in the vicinity.

At the site, the police commander reported that two motorcycle taxi riders and a passenger were slain in the incident, while three individuals managed to escape with injuries.

A section of the aircraft was on fire in video footage that was shared online, indicating that it erupted into flames upon contact. Other portions of the plane were seen sprawled on the road.

Fire engines responded and extinguished the fire, as evidenced by distinct images of adjacent makeshift structures that had also taken fire.

A probe into the incident has been initiated by the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA), which has verified that the aircraft was carrying three individuals who survived and were transported to the hospital.

“Unfortunately, there were three fatalities on the ground.” In a press release, the KCAA stated that government agencies are currently on the scene to determine the cause of the accident.
