In Zanzibar, a Chinese medical team offers complimentary healthcare to 400 individuals
A Chinese medical team stationed in the Indian Ocean islands has provided gratis medical services to approximately 400 individuals in Tanzania’s Zanzibar.
The 34th Chinese medical team provided medical clinical services to local residents at the Migombani community garden on Thursday and Friday. Respiratory disorders, gastroenterology, general surgery, urology, gynecology, ophthalmology, otolaryngology, stomatology, and traditional Chinese medicine comprised the services.
The Zanzibar Ministry of Health extended an invitation to the Chinese medical team as part of the 61st anniversary celebrations of the Zanzibar Revolution, which concluded on January 12.
The Chinese physicians conducted health and specialist examinations, administered traditional Chinese medicine treatments, and distributed complimentary medications to nearly 400 individuals from the community and adjacent areas, despite the oppressive heat. They conducted their operations in a modest conference room.
The medical team was visited by Li Qianghua, the consul general of the Chinese Consulate General in Zanzibar, who expressed her admiration for their free clinic activities.
Mariam Khalfan, the medical liaison officer for the Zanzibar Ministry of Health, conveyed her heartfelt appreciation to the Chinese medical team for their unwavering support of Zanzibar for more than 60 years.
Khalfan stated that this free clinic exemplified the medical technology and international humanitarian spirit of the Chinese medical team, as well as fortified the affinity between the peoples of the two countries.
Since 1964, when the first medical team from Jiangsu Province in east China was dispatched to Zanzibar, 847 medical workers have provided medical services to approximately 8.3 million locals in 34 phases, according to the Jiangsu Commission of Health.
