Guardiola claims that Kyle Walker has requested to leave Man City

Following their 8-0 FA Cup thumping of Salford City on Saturday, manager Pep Guardiola stated that Kyle Walker, the captain of Manchester City, has requested to quit the team.

Guardiola said that Walker had requested to “explore options abroad” and hence was not included in his squad for the third-round match.

Following City’s 2023 treble victory, the England international was linked to a transfer to German powerhouse Bayern Munich.

“Kyle requested two days ago to look into his possibilities for playing overseas and ending his career. I liked playing other players because of this,” Guardiola remarked.

“He asked two years ago after the treble, Bayern Munich wanted him, but the offer was not good enough.”

In 2017, the 34-year-old Walker moved from Tottenham Hotspur to City in a transaction valued at approximately 50 million pounds ($61.02 million).

With 319 appearances, he has helped City win 17 trophies, including their first Champions League and six Premier League titles.

“With Kyle gone, we can’t comprehend the success we’ve enjoyed in recent years. “It’s not feasible,” Guardiola continued.

“I continue to believe that nobody in our organization wants to be where they are and that they are capable of performing and being who they want to be.

“You never know what will happen, so just because he requested to explore doesn’t guarantee it would.

“He has served us for many years, and for that I am quite grateful, therefore I have a great deal of respect for him. He has been crucial to both our team and the national squad.

Walker has only made nine Premier League starts this season due to a reduction in playing time, and local media speculate that Saudi Arabia may be his next stop.

$1 is equal to 0.8194 pounds.
