Foreign Minister Iwaya of Japan Declares His Attendance at the Trump Inauguration Ceremony

Japanese Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya has said he will go to Donald Trump’s inauguration on January 20. This will strengthen ties between the US and Japan.

On Sunday, Japanese Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya said that he would be going to Donald Trump’s inauguration on January 20. This is a big step by Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba’s government to keep good relations with its most important security partner.

Iwaya said on a talk show on NHK, Japan’s public broadcaster, “We want to build a relationship of trust with the Trump administration”. He also said that while he was there, he was going to meet with Senator Marco Rubio, who is Trump’s choice for secretary of state.

This is Iwaya’s first trip to the US since taking office in October, which shows how committed Japan is to getting off to a good start with Trump’s second government. Japan and the US have had close ties in the past, and the Ishiba government wants to keep this going.

According to the Japanese newspaper “Yomiuri Shimbun,” Prime Minister Ishiba is going to visit the US in February for his first meeting with President Trump. A previous plan to meet in November, soon after Trump won the election, did not happen. The planned meeting should be made possible by Iwaya’s trip.

Besides Japan, other countries are also strengthening their ties with the US. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs said that Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, the foreign minister, will go to the opening and meet with Trump’s team. In the same way, Penny Wong, the foreign minister of Australia, stated that she would be there and stressed how important it was to improve economic and security cooperation with the US.

Wong said he was confident in Australia’s partnership with the US under the new Republican government. He called it a “important opportunity” to strengthen the partnership between the two countries in the Pacific.

As allies around the world get ready to work with Trump’s government, Japan’s proactive approach shows that it is determined to protect its long-standing alliance with the US even as geopolitical conditions change.
