A black-owned fanbase app is becoming more popular as a TikTok ban and changes to meta content loom
The Fanbase app is becoming more and more popular as Meta reverses required DEI actions and TikTok may permanently leave the US.
Among all apps in the Apple IOS store, Isaac Hayes III’s completely Black-owned app came in at number 42 on Saturday. In a video posted to Instagram, Hayes thanked everyone and urged them to visit Fanbase.
Hayes noted, “As far as I’m aware, this is the only independently founded social media platform that’s there.” “I’m actually enjoying myself a little bit right now.”
Earn Your Leisure stated that Fanbase was even higher, ranking eighth in the lists for social networking apps overall.
Users of social media are being compelled to reconsider how they use apps, which coincides with this growth spurt. Meta has revised its content filtering guidelines and eliminated a number of DEI procedures. Instead of using third-party fact-checking, the corporation is switching to community notes.
More hate speech, especially directed against LGBTQIA+ people, is made possible by this switch.
While many are flocking to Lemon8, which is owned by the same parent firm, ByteDance, the majority of TikTok users are currently in a panic. If ByteDance is unable to find a new buyer, Lemon8, another video-sharing app with comparable capabilities, will also be banned when TikTok is formally removed from the U.S. app market on January 19. Regretfully, it appears that the business has no intention of selling. This simply makes it easier for Fanbase to grow.
