Former US Presidents Get Back Together to Pay Tribute to Jimmy Carter at a State Funeral

Jimmy Carter’s state burial recognized him for his visionary leadership, international diplomacy, and unflinching dedication to human rights.

At the Washington National Cathedral, former US President Jimmy Carter was honored with a state funeral and a eulogy from President Joe Biden.

In addition to becoming the first to turn 100, Carter was the oldest surviving former US president before his death in Georgia last month.

Notable foreign policy accomplishments during his presidency include negotiating the historic peace deal between Egypt and Israel, establishing diplomatic relations with China, and negotiating treaties that gave Panama control over the Panama Canal from the United States.

The uncommon reunion of former Presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama with President-elect Donald Trump took place during the service. This was their first time getting together in public since President George H.W. Bush’s funeral in December 2018.

Carter’s legacy received somber tributes in the Tri-State Area. Inside the Stamford Government Centre, dozens of people held a moment of silence at 10 am, while outside the building, flags were flown at half-staff.

“Through that service, he has touched the lives of millions of people, helped eradicate disease, and continued to promote democracy and human rights around the world,” said Caroline Simmons, the mayor of Stamford, while reflecting on Carter’s unwavering dedication to public service. He truly served as an inspiration to a lot of people.

The 39th president was regarded as a leader with values whose vision extended beyond his time.
