105 people are arrested by Nigeria’s anti-graft agency for online fraud
Four Chinese nationals are among the 105 persons detained by Nigeria’s anti-graft agency on suspicion of participating in an online scam that targets hotels in Europe and other countries, the agency said Friday.
Dele Oyewale, a spokesman for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), said in a statement that the suspects were taken into custody Thursday after an apartment in the Nigerian capital, Abuja, was raided. According to him, they may be involved in a hotel review work fraud.
According to Oyewale, investigations are still on, and all suspects will be brought to court for trial after they are finished.
A raid on a building last month that was suspected of being a hub for scammers who enticed victims with promises of romance before pressuring them to give over money for fraudulent cryptocurrency investments resulted in the arrest of nearly 800 persons, including 40 Filipino and 148 Chinese citizens.
