Namibia and China have committed to advancing the outcomes of the FOCAC Beijing Summit
Wang Yi, a Chinese Foreign Minister and member of the Communist Party of China Central Committee’s Political Bureau, met with Namibian President Nangolo Mbumba on Monday in Swakopmund. The two men agreed to further their bilateral cooperation.
According to Wang, the relationship between China and Africa has endured despite their geographical separation.
He emphasized that China continues to be a reliable partner for Africa and continuously prioritizes Africa in its overall diplomatic strategy, saying that the China-Africa relationship has withstood the test of shifting global conditions and is displaying new exciting prospects.
“This tradition will continue because strengthening China-Africa cooperation is more crucial than ever for the world, and their joint development symbolizes the rise of the Global South and the growing influence of justice.” Wang said that for 35 years, Chinese foreign ministers have made Africa the destination of their first overseas visit each year, reflecting China’s unwavering commitment.
He pointed out that Namibia is a significant member of the African family and a comprehensive strategic cooperation partner of China.
Chinese President Xi Jinping announced that the general description of China-Africa relations was raised to an all-weather China-Africa community with a shared future for the new era at the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Summit last year in Beijing. He also proposed ten partnership action plans to jointly advance modernization.
Wang stated that this has set the direction for the future growth of China-Africa ties and that China is prepared to collaborate with Namibia to carry out the ten cooperation action plans, assisting Namibia in quickening its modernization process.
Wang stated that the Southwest Africa People’s Organization (SWAPO) Party of Namibia has embraced a people-centered governing concept and led the nation along a development path appropriate for its national circumstances, acknowledging Namibia’s distinctive resources and enormous growth potential.
According to Wang, China is prepared to enhance cooperation in a number of areas and improve governance exchanges with Namibia in order to accomplish shared growth.
Notwithstanding their disparate sizes, Namibia and China have long kept a friendship, solidarity, and cooperative relationship founded on respect and assistance for one another, according to Mbumba.
He stated that Namibia is committed to the one-China principle, supports China’s efforts to protect its territorial integrity, including Taiwan, and appreciates the development accomplishments made under the leadership of the Communist Party of China and Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. Namibia also looks forward to strengthening interparty exchanges with China and exchanging governance experiences.
Mbumba recalled the FOCAC Beijing Summit last year, where he met with Xi and the two presidents agreed to improve their bilateral ties. In order to improve the well-being of the two peoples, Namibia is eager to actively implement the summit’s outcomes and supports the Beijing Declaration and the FOCAC Beijing Action Plan. He said Namibia hopes to expand cooperation in infrastructure, digital economy, energy, agriculture, and education.
In order to protect common interests, Namibia supports the three global initiatives put forth by Xi: the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative, and the Global Civilization Initiative. It also anticipates further cooperation and support from China in regional and international affairs.
Wang also had a meeting with Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, the president-elect of Namibia, that same day.
