Official: The new Nigerian coach is Éric Chelle

Éric Sékou Chelle has been officially designated as the new head coach of the Super Eagles by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

The French-Malian and Ivorian tactician succeeds Finidi George, who resigned in June 2024. Former Super Eagles colleague Augustine Eguavoen assumed the role of interim coach.

The NFF has recently released the following statement, which confirms Chelle’s appointment. The 47-year-old has previously led Mali to the quarterfinals of the 2023 AFCON finals.

The Nigeria Football Federation’s Executive Committee has approved the appointment of Mr. Éric Sékou Chelle as the Head Coach of the senior men’s national football team, the Super Eagles, as recommended by its Technical and Development Sub-Committee.

“The NFF Technical and Development Sub-Committee recommended the appointment of the former Coach of the senior men’s national team of Mali as the new Head Coach of the Super Eagles at its meeting in Abuja on Thursday, January 2, 2025. The NFF Executive Committee endorsed this recommendation on Tuesday, January 7th.

Chelle’s appointment is effective immediately, and he is tasked with the responsibility of assisting the Super Eagles in securing a spot in the 2026 FIFA World Cup finals. The upcoming round of matches (Matchdays 5 & 6) is scheduled to take place in March.
