10 Spurs players will miss the League Cup semifinal matchup against Liverpool, according to Postecoglou

Prior to their League Cup semi-final first leg at home against Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur will be missing ten first-team players, manager Ange Postecoglou announced on Tuesday. The North London squad is hoping to snap a 16-year trophy drought.

With important players out and James Maddison and Pape Matar Sarr banned after receiving two yellow cards apiece in earlier rounds, Spurs’ injury problems are only getting worse.

Spurs strengthened their roster over the weekend by signing goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky from Slavia Prague, but Postecoglou won’t have many choices for the first leg against Liverpool at home on Wednesday.

“Our goal is to support the team and players. We will be without about ten first-team players against Liverpool, so we’re down a lot of guys,” Postecoglou said reporters.

“It’s difficult; we lose a couple after winning one back. The club is working hard on it in a lot of areas, and we still need to see whether we can assist the playing group.”

Long-term injuries have kept Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Wilson Odobert, Richarlison, Ben Davies, and Guglielmo Vicario out of the Spurs lineup, and it is doubtful that they will be healthy enough to play on Wednesday.

While others are being evaluated, Rodrigo Bentancur, who was suspended and missed Spurs’ 2-1 loss to Newcastle United, will return, according to Postecoglou.

“Maddison and Sarr are gone, but Bentancur is back. It’s possible that Mikey Moore will return to the bench. “I’m sure everyone feels better after the weekend,” Postecoglou added.

“Archie (Gray) and Radu (Dragusin) are superior. Although a little ill, Deki (Dejan Kulusevski) should recover.

“Richarlison is working out, but we want him to have two good weeks so that he’ll be OK if he makes it through next week. Fraser (Forster) has resumed his exercise regimen.

Positively, Spurs extended the contract of captain Son Heung-min by one year, and Postecoglou stated that he wants the South Korean attacker to leave the team with a title.

Spurs haven’t taken home a trophy since defeating Chelsea in the 2008 League Cup final.

“The main ambition is to make sure he finishes his career here with some silverware,” he stated.
