Report: Bears ask for interviews with Lions coordinators and the Cards’ OC
The Chicago Bears formally requested interviews with both Detroit Lions offensive coordinators and Arizona Cardinals offensive coordinator Drew Petzing, according to an NFL Network report on Monday.
On November 29, following a 4-8 start, head coach Matt Eberflus was fired by the Bears (5-12).
According to the report, the Bears requested interviews with DC Aaron Glenn and Lions OC Ben Johnson. This offseason, both should draw a number of interviews. The NFC playoffs’ top seed went to the Lions.
Chicago won its first game under interim coach Thomas Brown on Sunday, defeating Green Bay 24–22, stopping a 10-game losing streak. In addition, Brown, who began the season as the passing game coordinator, will be interviewed, Bears general manager Ryan Poles announced on Sunday.
“It was difficult,” Brown stated on Monday, “but this year I discovered a lot about myself.”
By watching him manage the squad, Brown said he is sure Poles learnt more about him than he could explain in an interview.
As Arizona’s offensive coordinator, Petzing, 37, recently finished his second season under head coach Jonathan Gannon.
Despite finishing 12th in the NFL in scoring (23.5 points per game) and 11th in total offense (358.2 yards per game), the Cardinals (8-9) were unable to qualify for the playoffs.
Petzing formerly served as an assistant coach with the Vikings (2014–19) and Cleveland Browns (2013, 2020–22), before joining current Bears president Kevin Warren in Minnesota.
