Officially, Zambia names Häuptle following Ghana’s unexpected departure
Nora Hauptle has been appointed as the new head coach of Copper Queens for a three-year term by the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ).
After leading the Black Queens to the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations finals, which will take place in Morocco in July 2025, the Swiss tactician unexpectedly broke off ties with the Ghana Football Association (GFA recent.
Hauptle was hired to build on the progress gained in the women’s game, as noted by FAZ General Secretary Reuben Kamanga. Bruce Mwape was replaced by the former Switzerland international.
“We are thrilled to announce that Nora Hauptle has been appointed as the new coach of the Zambia Women’s National Team. We have every reason to think she possesses the background and character that will help us advance,” Kamanga stated.
Her responsibility is to build on the progress our women’s game has made in recent years, which have included back-to-back Olympic qualifying, a bronze medal at the WAFCON, and a spot in the 2023 FIFA World Cup.
Hauptle will be looking to lead the Copper Queens to their first continental championship after the squad has already advanced to the 2024 WAFCON finals.
