Elon Musk says Twitter (X) is changing its algorithm to counteract negativity and encourage positive content
Elon Musk is changing Twitter’s content in some unexpected ways.
He revealed a “algorithm tweak” on the platform, now called X, on Friday with the goal of reducing “too much negativity” and increasing “unregretted user-seconds.” Musk revealed plans to allow users to dynamically modify their feeds and encourage more “informational/entertaining content” after acquiring the platform in October 2022.
This change comes after Musk’s contentious acts, which included backing Trump’s 2024 campaign and restoring accounts similar to Donald Trump’s following the Capitol riot on January 6. Musk’s support for Trump and Vivek Ramaswamy as co-leaders of the Department of Government Efficiency stoked discussions even further.
There was a wide range of reactions to Musk’s statement. AI specialist Ed Krassenstein described the timing as “interesting,” drawing a comparison between X’s strategy for dealing with negative under Biden and the current course under Trump.
Although the effects of Musk’s algorithmic tweaks are still unknown, users should soon see some adjustments to their timelines.
