Zion Williamson Contributes $100,000 to Help Bourbon Street Attack Victims
Following the devastating attack on Bourbon Street on New Year’s Day, Zion Williamson, a forward for the New Orleans Pelicans, is taking action to support his neighborhood. To help victims and their families, the NBA player is contributing $100,000 to the Tragedy Fund of the Greater New Orleans Foundation.
“This struck me hard as a father, a son, and someone who loves the community,” Williamson told ESPN. “Standing together and ensuring that no one feels alone is more important than money alone.”
Williamson is one of numerous local leaders providing assistance. Cameron Jordan, a defensive end for the New Orleans Saints, said on social media that he would be contributing $25,000 to the charity. Gayle Benson, the owner of the Pelicans and Saints, promised $1.25 million to help people in need in the meantime.
Benson released a statement saying, “We are totally committed to supporting the victims and their families in the wake of the tragic events on Bourbon Street this New Year’s.” “We will give those impacted essential support and make sure they have the resources they require during this trying time through the Greater New Orleans Foundation’s disaster relief fund.”
The town of New Orleans has been rocked by the attack, which killed 14 people and injured a number of others.
“It is our shared duty to help our community during difficult times,” Benson added. “And as we recover together, I will remain by New Orleans’ side.”
