In Damascus, Libyan Minister Al-Lafi Meets with Syrian Officials to Talk About Military Cooperation and Security
High-level discussions on military and security cooperation between Libyan Minister Al-Lafi and Syrian officials have taken place in Damascus.
On Saturday, Walid Al-Lafi, the Libyan Minister of State for Communications and Political Affairs, traveled to Damascus to meet with recently appointed Syrian authorities.
Minister Al-Lafi met with Ahmad al-Sharaa, the head of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), at the Al-Shaab Palace.
Al-Lafi told reporters after the meeting that the talks with the Syrian authorities were mostly about security and military matters that both countries could benefit.
“The timing of the meeting, the cross-files between Libya and Syria, particularly the military and security files, and the regional repercussions of the major events that occurred in Syria made it significant,” Walid Al-Lafi said.
Many European and Arab leaders have been traveling to Syria since the toppling of the administration of former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, promising to work with and promote the country’s reconstruction and peaceful handover of power.
