Kerry Washington was informed that she was a “risk” for leading a scandal
Kerry Washington was warned she was a “risk” to be in charge of the “Scandal” cast.
Playing crisis management specialist Olivia Pope in the drama series, which aired from 2012 to 2018, the 48-year-old actress rose to fame. She is “proud” that viewers liked the program since she was the first black woman to headline a network drama series during her own lifetime.
“When ‘Scandal’ first came out, everyone talked about it, literally referring to it as ‘a risk,’ to have a black woman as the lead of a network drama because it hadn’t happened in nearly 40 years,” she remarked on the “Reign with Josh Smith” podcast.
Furthermore, I hadn’t experienced it in my lifetime because I was in my 30s at the time. People also didn’t believe it would succeed.
The fact that it worked made me quite proud, but I wasn’t proud of myself either. I didn’t think I was great. I thought, “Audiences are fantastic, right?” since crowds of people came.
“Record numbers of viewers tuned in to express their desire to see heroes who resemble them.” After that, a number of viewers turned in and expressed their want to see heroes that didn’t resemble them. We don’t mind if our heroes and protagonists look like anyone.
“And for that reason, the show was successful.”
“Scandal,” in Kerry’s opinion, had a significant impact on the industry.

What’s our program with a woman of color in the lead, everyone asked after that? Additionally, more series featuring women of color were crucial to ABC as well.
The “Little Fires Everywhere” actor has gained a lot of knowledge from her work on many films and, following a bad experience in the past, she strives to promote a “creatively courageous” atmosphere.
