Starbucks employees have extended their strike to cities throughout the United States, including New York
Late on Saturday, the union that represents over 10,000 baristas at Starbucks (SBUX.O) announced that the strike has been extended to four additional U.S. cities, including New York.
The five-day strike, which commenced on Friday and initially resulted in the closure of Starbucks cafes in Los Angeles, Chicago, and Seattle, has expanded to include New Jersey, New York, Philadelphia, and St. Louis, according to a statement from Workers United. It did not specify the location of the New Jersey strike.
There was no prompt response from Starbucks to a request for comment made outside of its regular business hours.
Unresolved issues regarding wages, personnel, and schedules resulted in the strike after negotiations between the coffee chain and the union reached an impasse.
During the bustling holiday season, the union is striking in 10 cities, including Columbus, Denver, and Pittsburgh. This action may have an impact on the company’s Christmas sales.
“Hundreds of stores” could be affected by the strike by Tuesday, Christmas Eve, according to Workers United’s warning on Friday.
In April, Starbucks initiated negotiations with the union. This month, it reported that it had conducted over eight bargaining sessions, during which 30 agreements were reached.
With approximately 200,000 employees, the organization administers more than 11,000 stores throughout the United States.
