Yang, who is headed to Tottenham, is thrilled to see Son again
Yang Min-hyeok, a South Korean winger, left Seoul for London on Monday in order to join Tottenham Hotspur in the middle of the season. He will be paired with fellow international Son Heung-min.
In July, Spurs signed Yang from Gangwon FC to a deal that would last until 2030. The 18-year-old is coming a month ahead of schedule, having originally been scheduled to join Ange Postecoglou’s team in January.
Yang said that he was nervous before his 14-hour travel, but he also expressed his excitement about the opportunity to play with Tottenham captain Son, who is 14 years his senior and the most well-liked athlete in his native country.
He had trouble falling asleep and watched Spurs’ resounding 5-0 Premier League triumph over Southampton in the early hours of the morning, which began at 4 a.m. on Monday in South Korea.
“Being a member of the club excites me. “Playing with Son would be an honor, and I would be thankful for the chance,” Yang told reporters at Seoul’s Incheon International Airport.
“I’ve imagined myself in that circumstance. I’m eager to get there, prove myself to others, and get the opportunity to play with him in the same game.”
Son and Yang have previously met briefly. Yang played for a K League All-Star team in a friendly match against Tottenham in July. His senior call-up for World Cup qualifying came in September, and he joined Son on the South Korean national squad. But he hasn’t received a cap yet.
In 38 games for Gangwon this season, Yang recorded 12 goals and six assists. Just before turning 18, he scored the first goal in K League 1 in March, making him the youngest goal scorer in history.
He will be an asset to a Spurs team that has been devastated by injuries.
“I’d like to get into a match before the season ends, and hopefully score a goal or get an assist,” Yang stated. In order to maintain my health going ahead, I have been concentrating on rest and recuperation because I will be joining the club in the middle of the season. “In my opinion, I am prepared (for his Premier League debut).” I’ll play well there, and I hope the people will keep cheering me on,” he continued.
