Will Kwesi Appiah rejoin Ghana as coach? A mentor from Sudan answers

James Kwesi Appiah, the head coach of Sudan, has addressed speculation that he may rejoin Ghana as a mentor for the Black Stars.

The 64-year-old served as the Black Stars’ trainer for two periods. In 2014, he led the team to the FIFA World Cup, making him the first Black African coach to do so.

While his home country of Ghana had a dismal season and was unable to secure a spot in the tournament under Otto Addo, Appiah just led Sudan to the 2025 AFCON finals.

Appiah stated that he is concentrating on his task as coach of Sudan and ruled out the prospect of getting reappointed as Ghana’s coach.

Appiah stated on Ghana Soccer Net, “As a professional coach, you have to always remember that you must be ready for any opportunity, but as of right now, I have a contract with Sudan.”

“I don’t want to say anything right now because I don’t want to contradict myself, but I am focused on what I am doing with Sudan.”

Appiah signed a three-year contract in October 2023 with the goal of restoring Sudan, and he has performed admirably with the Falcons of Jediane thus far.
