Caroline Dubois was given the WBC lightweight belt after Taylor gave up the title
IBF heavyweight world champion Daniel’s sister, Caroline Dubois of Britain, received the WBC lightweight championship on Wednesday after Katie Taylor of Ireland relinquished it.
On January 11, her 24th birthday, Dubois, who served as the interim champion, will defend the world championship for the first time in Sheffield against Jessica Camara of Canada.
At the WBC’s annual convention in Hamburg, WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman, who was re-elected for a four-year period, presented the Briton with the belt.
“It’s always been my dream to become world champion, and this is just the start of the journey for me,” said Dubois, who is currently 10-0 and became pro following the 2022 Tokyo Olympics.
Taylor, the WBC super-lightweight champion and 2012 Olympic gold winner, has not competed at lightweight since 2022 but had maintained the title since 2019.
After Oleksandr Usyk of Ukraine lost the championship, Daniel Dubois was elevated from interim to IBF heavyweight world champion. Last September, the Briton defeated fellow countryman Anthony Joshua in a successful defense.
