In 2024, Morocco has a record amount of tourists
Morocco’s tourism ministry reported on Monday that the country’s first 11 months of this year saw a record 15.9 million visitors, more than it had during the entire previous year.
About 7% of the North African nation’s GDP comes from tourism, which also provides a significant amount of foreign exchange and jobs.
According to a government statement, arrivals through November were 10% higher than the entire year 2023 and 20% more than the same period the previous year.
The release cited tourism minister Fatim-Zahra Ammor as saying, “These impressive numbers demonstrate the impact of our roadmap and represent a significant step towards our goal of positioning Morocco among the top 15 global tourist destinations.”
Morocco has promoted new domestic travel destinations, encouraged the industry to rehabilitate hotels, and created more air links to important tourist markets.
According to official estimates, tourism earnings increased 9.3% to 97 billion dirhams ($9.72 bln) between January and October.
When Morocco co-hosts the soccer World Cup with Spain and Portugal in 2030, it hopes to have 17.5 million tourists by that year and 26 million by 2030.
