Diamond Platnumz’s “Komasava” hit trash, labeled by Warner Music
According to Bongo Flava singer Diamond Platunmz, one of the largest record labels in the world, Warner Music Group (WMG), called his huge single “Komasava remix,” which included American pop and R&B artist Jason Derulo, “trash.”
Four months after its first release on July 26, the song and its music video have received over 31 million views on YouTube and were the number one song trending in Kenya and Tanzania for a whole week.
To date, “Komasava remix” has been streamed over 8.2 million times on Spotify.
Diamond now asserts that Warner, with whom he has a distribution agreement, rejected the song when he initially presented it, calling it “trash.”
“My song ‘Komasava’ is currently highly popular all over the world. Warner, which is my distributor, rejected that song when I sent it to them. In a recent interview with Deutsche Welle (DW), Diamond stated, “They said it’s trash, they said this song we don’t want to take it.”
Diamond claims he had no doubts that “Komasava” was the exact type of music he was expected to provide to Warner for release, as per the terms of his contract.
“So, after they refused to take the song, I went home, listened to it, and came to the conclusion that it was a hit. Why don’t they take it?” I dropped it, then. He continues.
According to Diamond, Warner never provided him with a convincing explanation for why Komasava, which he performed at the Grammys, didn’t meet the requirements.
“You know, these major distribution, record, and label companies still have this outdated mentality. They either think you can sing in English or they think the old, popular sounds are still relevant. Therefore, they refuse to accept a new sound that you offer them. Diamond asserted.
However, Warner had a change of heart once the song was published and became a tremendous hit, even attracting the attention of certain worldwide artists including music sensation Chris Brown and U.S. soccer player Paul Pogba.
They requested it after the song was out, but I informed my management that I didn’t want them to have it since they had rejected it. Watch Chris Brown as he moves to the music. Swae Lee requested us to perform the song because he thought it was so great. Even Jason Derulo desired a remix.
