Israel claims to have killed a suspect in the Oct. 7 assault who was employed by a US organization

The Israeli military said on Saturday that it has killed a jihadist who participated in the October 7, 2023, Hamas attacks on Israel and who was working in Gaza for World Central Kitchen, a U.S.-based organization.

Reuters was unable to independently confirm the man’s name and if he participated in the attack on Israel last year, and the military provided no proof.

The airstrike was verified by World Central Kitchen, which also denied knowing of any employees participated in the incident on October 7.

It put a statement on X that read, “We are heartbroken to share that a vehicle carrying World Central Kitchen colleagues was hit by an Israeli airstrike in Gaza.” “World Central Kitchen had no knowledge that any individual in the vehicle had alleged ties to the October 7th Hamas attack.”

In addition to stating that it was operating with insufficient knowledge and urgently requesting further facts, the nonprofit organization announced that it was halting activities in Gaza.

Hamas refrained from commenting right away.

Three charity workers were murdered after an Israeli attack hit a car in Khan Younis, southern Gaza, according to the official Palestinian news agency WAFA. According to medics, five persons died in all.

A car used by security guards entrusted with supervising assistance delivery into Gaza was struck by an Israeli airstrike close to a gathering getting flour in Khan Younis later, killing at least nine Palestinians, according to doctors.

The Israeli military disputes that it targets civilians and charges Hamas of employing the people of Gaza as human shields and operating from civilian facilities.

According to Gaza authorities, Israeli attacks around the territory killed at least 32 Palestinians overnight and into Saturday, including seven people killed in a hit on a home in central Gaza City, according to Gaza medics.

UPCOMING CEASEFIRE ACTIONS

Days after Israel and Hezbollah reached an agreement on a truce in Lebanon, Hamas leaders were scheduled to meet with Egyptian authorities in Cairo on Saturday, according to two Hamas officials who spoke to Reuters.

The trip is the first since the US declared earlier this week that it will resume attempts to negotiate a truce in Gaza in coordination with Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey.

In order to discuss measures to negotiate a ceasefire agreement with Israel that would result in the release of hostages in exchange for Palestinian detainees, the Hamas team is anticipated to meet with Egyptian security authorities.

Up until now, there hasn’t been much progress in a string of intermittent discussions spanning months.

While Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said that the war would only stop when Hamas is destroyed, Hamas is attempting to reach a deal that would put an end to the conflict.

According to Gaza authorities, Israel’s military operation in the territory has killed at least 44,382 Palestinians and at least once displaced almost all of its residents. Entire regions of Gaza are in ruins.

According to Israeli sources, the battle began 13 months ago when terrorists headed by Hamas attacked villages in southern Israel, killing about 1,200 people and taking over 250 captives.
