Matt Eberflus has been fired by the Chicago Bears
In his third season with the Bears, Matt Eberflus was dismissed, marking the first in-season head coaching change in the team’s history. Therefore, the Matt Eberflus era in Chicago is ended.
The news was released on Friday, less than twenty-four hours after the Bears suffered their sixth consecutive defeat at the hands of the Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving Day, a performance that drew harsh criticism.
In the last minute of the game, with the ball and behind 23–20, Eberflus decided not to utilize a timeout to stop the clock… and Chicago’s late rally failed.
Eberflus appeared certain he would return to the field against the San Francisco 49ers the next weekend, but that was not the case, only hours before he was fired.
Although Eberflus struggled greatly in close games, he finished 14-32 in his two seasons with Chicago and 4-8 in 2024.
Thomas Brown will serve as the Bears’ offensive coordinator for the remainder of the season.
Notwithstanding the team’s recent setbacks, the future may be promising with the appropriate person leading it. The full-time position will provide the opportunity to work with 2024 No. 1 selection Caleb Williams and a powerful offense.
