Funkmaster Flex says that Drake is “100% right” about payola after UMG and Spotify were accused of it

The radio DJ gave out a price list for different forms.

When Drake asks Universal Music Group to look into his claims of “payola,” Funkmaster Flex agrees with him.

The media figure talked about the possible lawsuit on social media on Tuesday (Nov. 26), with a joke about the price of radio play.

“DRAKE IS 100% RIGHT!” the 56-year-old said on X. “NATIONAL TEAM PLAY!” He kept writing that he was told prices like $350,000 for pop radio, $250,000 for urban radio, $100,000 for mix shows, and $3,000 to $5,000 a week for a local DJ to play just one song were real. “THIS IS WHY INDEPENDENT ARTISTS DON’T DO WELL!”

While he talked about how much radio play costs, he set himself apart by saying, “ALL YOU ARTIST KNOW I AINT NEVER TAKE A DIME FROM YOU, YOUR MANAGER OR YOUR LABELS!” (BOMB DOESN’T COST ANYTHING)”

Drake is totally right! THE NATIONAL GAME!
(PER SONG) Drake doesn’t play!
$350,000 for POP/CHR radio
$250K for urban radio
$100K MIX SHOW
$40k for a local mix show director
$3K to $5K per song for a local DJ!
(DJs play music five days a week)

THIS IS WHY INDEPENDENT ARTISTS NEVER MAKE IT BIG!

ALL OF YOU…

Funkmaster Flex’s words back up what Drake said earlier this week about UMG: that the music company used Spotify to boost the number of streams and the longevity of Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us.”

By using “bots” and pay-to-play deals, the 38-year-old says UMG “launched a campaign to manipulate and saturate the streaming services and airwaves with a song, ‘Not Like Us,’ in order to make that song go viral.”

The company said in a statement in response to the claims, “The idea that UMG would do anything to hurt any of its artists is offensive and false.” “When we do our marketing and advertising, we only use the most honest methods.” This pre-action submission is full of made-up and silly legal reasons that can’t hide the fact that fans pick the songs they want to hear.
