Von der Leyen’s new European Commission is endorsed by EU lawmakers
Ursula von der Leyen got support from the European Parliament for her new team at the European Commission on Wednesday. This means she can start her new job at the beginning of next month, even though problems are getting worse in Europe and the US.
Most members of the European Parliament voted in favor of the new Commission on Wednesday. Ursula von der Leyen will lead the Commission for a second term.
These politicians voted for and against the new European Union executive team.
As soon as the European Council gives its official approval with a qualified majority, the new Commission will begin its work on December 1.
Donald Trump’s return to the White House as U.S. president, rising tensions with China, the war in Ukraine, and climate change are some of the problems Von der Leyen will have to deal with next year.
She promised that in her first 100 days, she would make plans to help businesses meet the EU’s carbon neutrality goal by 2050, strengthen European defense, lay out a vision for EU agriculture, and give updates on plans to expand the EU.
