Manchester United’s loss in the first quarter is less because they cut costs
On Tuesday, Manchester United (MANU.N), opens in a new tab, reported a smaller adjusted net loss for the first quarter of 2025. This was due to lower costs and better exchange rates.
The net loss after adjustments was 349,000 pounds ($439,007.10) for the three months ending September 30. This is down from 8.6 million pounds the previous year. The three months’ sales dropped 9% to 143.1 million pounds.
The club said that the plans to cut costs and staff are still on track.
The team also said that the work of a task group set up in March to look into ways to improve the Old Trafford area of Greater Manchester was still going on.
In a statement, CEO Omar Berrada said, “Once it has delivered its recommendations, we will take some time to digest them and then look at all of our options for the coming year.”
When British investor Jim Ratcliffe bought a small part of United earlier this year, he promised to spend 237 million pounds on improving the club’s infrastructure. However, any project would cost a lot more, so the club will look for public-private partners.
The club has been criticized for a long time for their failing facilities and poor play on the field since the American Glazer family took over and made them struggle after their glory days under former boss Alex Ferguson.
United has made a number of changes to its management and operations since Ratcliffe took over as manager. This is because the new co-owners want the team to be very successful so they can get back their huge investment.
This month, United replaced Erik ten Hag as head coach with the Portuguese Ruben Amorim. Since Ferguson quit in 2013, he is the sixth permanent boss.
The English champs haven’t won the Premier League since Ferguson left the team.
The value of 1 dollar is 0.7949 pounds.
