Xi of China goes to Morocco and meets with the crown prince

State media from both China and Morocco say that President Xi Jinping paid a short visit to Morocco on Thursday.

Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan welcomed Xi to Casablanca. The visit showed how close the people of Morocco and China are in terms of friendship, cooperation, and unity, according to Morocco’s MAP.

At the airport, the Crown Prince and Aziz Akhannouch, the prime minister of Morocco, met Xi. According to CCTV, Xi and Hassan had a “friendly conversation.”

Xi went on the trip after attending the G20 Summit in Brazil.

In the past few years, China has put more money into Morocco’s train and infrastructure.

Chinese companies that make batteries for electric vehicles like Morocco because it is close to Europe, has free trade deals with important EU and U.S. markets, and already has an automotive industry.

In June, Chinese company Gotion High Tech chose Morocco to build Africa’s first gigafactory, which will cost a total of $1.3 billion.
