Gatwick Airport’s South Terminal was evacuated, and a bomb disposal team was sent in because of a suspicious item found in luggage
The South Terminal of Gatwick Airport had to be evacuated after what was thought to be an illegal item was found, which led to the deployment of a bomb disposal team.
A unit for getting rid of bombs has been sent to Gatwick Airport after a “large part” of its South Terminal was evacuated.
Police in Sussex said that a “suspected prohibited item” was found in luggage, which is what made explosives experts come to the airport.
Authorities have warned that their actions are “causing significant disruption,” which is why many of the roads around the South Terminal are closed.
“We advise the public to avoid the area where possible,” the police said.
The second busiest airport in the UK stated that the terminal had to be evacuated because of a “security incident.”
“We are working hard to solve the problem as soon as possible,” it said in a post on X.
Tourists were seen leaving the airport building in large groups on social media.
People have been told to check with their airlines to see what’s going on with their trips.
The airport said that the North Terminal is still working regularly. Gatwick Express said that Gatwick Airport will not be a stop for its trains.
“Gatwick Airport will not be served until further notice,” said a tweet.
“Because of an emergency at the airport, the police and emergency services are busy.”
“Right now, the station and airport are being locked down while police handle an incident.” We suggest that you put off your trip until later this morning.
There are also problems with local bus routes that can’t get to the airport.
Cirium, a company that studies aviation, says that more than 600 planes with more than 121,000 seats were planned to land or take off at Gatwick on Friday.
