Attorney for Sean “Diddy” Combs Acknowledges Mogul Violating Jail Telephone Regulations
The lawyer’s complaint claims that the behavior is widespread at MDC.
In a Nov. 21 petition, Sean “Diddy” Combs’s lawyers acknowledged that the creator of the Bad Boy group did, in fact, violate the jail phone regulations at the Metropolitan Detainment Center (MDC) in Brooklyn. The admission follows accusations made by prosecutors that Diddy was trying to “obstruct justice” from behind bars by phoning relatives to reach witnesses and “influence” public opinion regarding his case.
In records that AllHipHop was able to get, Alexandra Shapiro, one of Diddy’s attorneys, acknowledged that Combs had violated the guidelines established by the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) of the U.S. Department of Justice by using other prisoners’ Phone Access Cards (PACs) to make calls.
It is forbidden for an inmate to have another inmate’s phone number. According to the policy, an inmate is not allowed to share their phone access code number with another offender and must notify unit officials right away if their phone access code is compromised.
However, Shapiro claims that the practice is widespread at MDC.
In the petition before Judge Arun Subramanian, Shapiro stated, “The use of other inmates’ PAC numbers is also a widespread practice at the MDC and not obstruction.” convicts are only allowed to make one call per hour and share their calling minutes with other convicts on a regular basis. The government hasn’t offered any proof that Mr. Combs’ statements made with other numbers differ from those made with his personal PAC number.
“If anything, the fact that Mr. Combs must share minutes shows that the conditions at MDC do not permit an adequate defense preparation,” the lawyer went on to say. All calls are monitored, and although though this is technically against BOP policy, the practice is essentially sanctioned by the BOP.
Diddy’s representatives also charged earlier this week that the prosecution had manipulated the now-famous 2016 hotel video that showed the Bad Boy founder abusing his ex-girlfriend Cassie. In a victory for the team, Judge Subramanian also ordered the destruction of a note discovered during a recent raid on Diddy’s cell, when prosecutors seized 19 missives, according to NBC News.
Combs was arrested in September on accusations of transportation to engage in prostitution, sex trafficking by force, deception, or coercion, and racketeering conspiracy. His fifth bond hearing is scheduled for this Friday, November 22, and his trial is scheduled for May 2025.
