Amorim thinks he is the “dreamer” who can bring Man United back to their former glory
Even though Ruben Amorim is Manchester United’s sixth permanent manager since 2013, when they won the Premier League, the 39-year-old said he was the right person to bring the team back to its past glory.
Anorim said on Friday, “I’m a bit of a dreamer.” “I believe in the club and I believe in myself. We all think the same way.”
“I really believe in the players. I know you (the media) don’t do that often, but I do.” I need to try something new. “I believe it’s possible, but you guys don’t.”
The Portuguese coach held his first press conference at United’s Carrington Training Centre since becoming head coach on November 11. It was a busy event, and the player spoke two days before his first game in charge on Sunday at Ipswich Town.
Because one of the biggest clubs in the world is under so much criticism, many people call being the head coach “the impossible job.”
Even though there were many managers who had failed before him, Amorim laughed off the idea.
“Of course not,” he replied. “Call me naive, but I really think I’m the right person for the job at this time.” “That doesn’t bother me.”
Because of the recent international break, Amorim has only had two training sessions with his new team. He promises that fans will see a change, but not a major overhaul, when they play at Portman Road on Sunday.
Amorim said, “I think simple things.” “We drop the ball too often.” We need to get better at running back and pay attention to the little things.
“The little things need to be made better. I believe my strength is in being able to understand the little things.
“THE BEST CLUB IN ENGLAND”
According to the club, nine Portuguese journalists were at the event on Friday. Many of them congratulated and hugged the former Sporting boss.
Jose Mourinho, a fellow Portugueseman and former United manager, sent Amorim a word of good luck that said, “It’s a big club, lovely club with lovely people.” Amorim said that Mourinho was right, and it still is.
“But we’re putting up a new club.” I’m not the same person. I want to teach my players something new here. The best club in England is this one. “All we want is to win.”
He was asked what made his move to United different from Mourinho’s move to Chelsea in 2004, making Mourinho the first Portuguese boss in the Premier League.
“With all the Portuguese coaches, we’ve shown that we can be the best in the world,” said Amorim. I am not the same as Mourinho, though. I remember that. When you saw Mourinho, you thought he could win anywhere. It’s not the same. It was him who won the European title, not me.
“These days football is different, and I think I’m the right person for this moment.” I’m young, and I try to help my players with that. These players, like Frank Lampard, used to be their young stars. Things are so different now. For now, I believe I am correct.
Amorim, who is known for his entertaining style and warm nature, led Sporting to the Primeira Liga title in 2021, ending a 19-year title drought. They then won a second title the following year.
They quickly hired Amorim, who is seen as one of the best young managers in Europe, after firing Erik ten Hag on October 28 while the team was stuck in 14th place in the league.
Ruud van Nistelrooy, a former assistant manager, was put in charge of United temporarily. In his four games in charge, United won all four, moving them up to 13th in the league table, just four points behind third.
