Due to an ACL injury, Ghanaian winger Fatawu of Leicester will miss the season

Steve Cooper, the manager of Leicester City, said on Thursday that Ghanaian winger Abdul Fatawu would miss the remainder of the season due to an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury sustained while playing for his country.

After playing in all 11 of City’s league games this season, 20-year-old Fatawu sustained an injury during Friday’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Angola.

“This injury is severe. Cooper informed media prior to Saturday’s home match against Chelsea that he will be sidelined for the remainder of the season due to an ACL injury.

“So, a real blow, first and foremost for him, being a young player and having an injury as serious as an ACL is.”

After his performance last season, when he scored six goals in 40 games to assist City earn promotion from the Championship, Fatawu’s loan from Sporting was extended permanently. However, he is currently the most recent player in European football to sustain an ACL injury.

The injury has kept out the following players: Rodri of Manchester City, Eder Militao and Dani Carvajal of Real Madrid, Mauro Icardi of Galatasaray, and Gleison Bremer and Juan Cabal of Juventus.

“Albeit, it can be quite common in sport and in particular football, but it’s still a serious injury,” Cooper stated.

“It is a blow to him and to us that it occurred at such a young age.

Cooper is more upbeat about Jordan Ayew’s recuperation time, despite the fact that the Ghanaian forward was also hurt in the same match.

“It’s not a serious injury, as it might have been reported locally in Ghana,” Cooper stated.

“The hope is that he may be available on the weekend but it’s a little bit inconclusive on that at the moment.”

Chelsea is in third place with 19 points, while Leicester is in fifteenth place with 10.
