Trump Selects Lutnick for Commerce, Mehmet Oz for Medicare and Medicaid, and McMahon for Education
Trump names Howard Lutnick for Commerce, Linda McMahon for Education, and Dr. Oz for Medicare and Medicaid as members of his Cabinet.
As part of his promise to restructure the Education Department, President-elect Donald Trump named billionaire and former professional wrestling executive Linda McMahon as Secretary of the Department.
Moreover, Trump appointed cardiothoracic surgeon and former talk show personality Dr. Mehmet Oz to head the agency that manages health insurance programs for millions of low-income, elderly, and handicapped Americans. Additionally, Wall Street executive Howard Lutnick has been selected to lead the Commerce Department.
During Trump’s first term, McMahon led the Small Business Administration from 2017 to 2019. He has previously made two Republican runs for the US Senate in Connecticut. She has been on the board of trustees at Sacred Heart University and has been active in the Connecticut Board of Education. McMahon is a relatively obscure figure in the education community, yet she is in favor of school choice and charter schools.
Trump said he was certain McMahon will help make America a leader in education and commended her leadership experience and business and educational knowledge. Trump’s devoted follower McMahon recently went with him to a SpaceX Starship launch ceremony in Texas.
McMahon became chair of the pro-Trump America First Action SuperPAC and the America First Policy Institute following her time in the Trump administration. The former CEO of World Wrestling Entertainment, Vince McMahon, who left due to accusations of sexual misconduct, which he denies, is her spouse.
McMahon, if approved by the Republican-controlled Senate, will be in charge of bringing the country’s educational institutions into line with Trump’s agenda, which includes doing away with what he considers to be left-wing brainwashing in classrooms. Trump has promised to oppose university diversity programs and to slash government money for institutions that promote Critical Race Theory and other divisive ideas.
As a staunch Trump supporter, Dr. Mehmet Oz, who lost his 2022 bid for the US Senate in Pennsylvania, recently endorsed Robert F. Kennedy Jr. for the role of head of the federal health department. Trump thinks Oz will put an emphasis on preventing illness and cutting down on fraud and waste in the country’s healthcare system.
