Jerry Jones: The Cowboys are not going to fire Big Mike McCarthy
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said that the team will no longer change coaches during the season.
The Cowboys lost their seventh game of the season on Monday. Jones said, “You don’t need to worry about anyone in that locker room giving it their all and how bad they feel when they get beat on a play, in a quarter, or the whole game.” “I don’t ever worry about that.”
Jones said he feels bad about firing head coaches too soon in the past. For example, he fired Wade Phillips after a 1-7 start in 2010.
“I feel bad about that. That’s the music I’m hearing, Jones said.
There are no plans to make a change with head coach Mike McCarthy in Dallas, where the Cowboys (3-7) have lost all seven home games and have the worst home record in the league (-118).
When the team keeps losing, McCarthy said, “it’s frustrating for everybody.” But he knows that a string of wins at the end of the season is the only thing that could save his job when his contract ends in January.
He said Monday night, “There is good coming out of this.” “You don’t see it because we’re not winning games, but young men are getting chances to do more, and I think it will turn out well.” We need it in six days, so please hurry up.”
Last year, the Cowboys went 12–5 and talked about a way to get to the Super Bowl all summer. What happened did not match what was expected.
Jones said he expects the Cowboys to stick together through what he called “tough times,” like when Dallas went 1-15 in Jones’s first year as owner in 1989.
“And other years have been hard. We didn’t expect the record for this one either. “And the way we’re playing now, we didn’t think that would happen,” Jones said. “But, not, this isn’t — y’all have heard me tell these old stories until you’re sick — but not, you stay in this league long enough, you’ll have times like this.”
Jones could change his mind, since the Cowboys have three games in eleven days. Monday night’s 34–10 loss to the Texans in prime time was their third straight home loss by at least three touchdowns. The Eagles, who are in first place in the NFC East, beat the Cowboys 34-6, and the Detroit Lions beat them 47-9 to start their current five-game losing run.
Dallas’s next game is quickly coming up against Dan Quinn, who used to be their defensive coordinator and quickly turned things around with the Washington Commanders (7-4).
“Man, this is it. We lost seven times. We need to leave. With their backs to the wall. We got to scratch and fight. The coach said, “We have to do everything we can to win the next game.” “That’s how I feel. That’s what I’m going to teach, and that’s what you should do. We need to win.”
A backup quarterback battle between the Dallas Cowboys and the New York Giants, Cooper Rush, is the main attraction of the Cowboys’ annual Thanksgiving Day game. The Cowboys play again on “Monday Night Football” eleven days later against the Cincinnati Bengals.
