A terrorist attack in Kashmir, India, injured eleven people
In a packed flea market in Srinagar, the capital of India-administered Kashmir, terrorists tossed a grenade at Indian security forces on Sunday, injuring at least 11 persons, according to a police officer.
The official told Reuters the militants injured at least 11 individuals after missing their goal. Since he was not permitted to address the media, the official asked to remain anonymous.
It is uncertain which terrorist organization carried out the attack.
“The explosion caused panic in the market and sent shoppers scrambling for cover,” the official said, adding that the injured were taken to the hospital for treatment and were in a stable condition.
The assault occurs one day after Indian soldiers in Kashmir murdered a senior leader of the militant Islamist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and two other terrorists.
Since an opposition alliance formed a government in Kashmir, where separatist militants have been fighting security forces for decades, killing thousands of people, there has been a wave of assaults.
Fifteen individuals have been killed in various extremist strikes since the new administration seized power earlier last month.
The 2019 withdrawal of Kashmir’s special status, which resulted in its division into the federally managed areas of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, caused the two nations to downgrade their diplomatic ties. Kashmir is fully claimed but partially governed by both India and Pakistan.
