Liz Cheney denounces Trump as a “tyrant” when he implies that she should be subjected to the firing squad

Following Trump’s suggestion that she should be put to death by firing squad for her political efforts, Liz Cheney denounced him as a “tyrant.”

After he implied that she would be less of a “war hawk” if guns were aimed at her, Liz Cheney, a former Republican Representative and vocal opponent of Donald Trump, called the former president a “vindictive, cruel” tyrant on Friday.

“Dictators obliterate free nations in this manner. In a post on social networking platform X, the former lawmaker and daughter of former vice president Dick Cheney said, “They threaten those who speak against them with death.” She emphasized,

“A petty, spiteful, cruel, unstable man who aspires to be a tyrant cannot be trusted with our nation and our freedom.”

During a fireside conversation with former Fox News personality Tucker Carlson in Arizona, Trump, who is running for reelection, made his comments while denouncing Cheney’s father for supporting Democratic candidate Kamala Harris. He stated,

“And I don’t blame him for continuing to be with his daughter, but she is a really stupid person.” “She’s a radical war hawk,” Trump added. Alright, let’s have her standing there with a gun pointing nine barrels at her. Let’s see what she thinks of it. When the weapons are aimed at her face, you know.

Ian Sams, Harris’ campaign advisor, drew attention to the contrast between Trump’s “talking about sending a prominent Republican to the firing squad” and Harris’s “talking about sending one to her cabinet,” sparking an immediate outcry.

Former Trump White House top staffer Alyssa Farah Griffin called his remarks “unconscionable,” saying,

“I don’t understand how Republican leaders, many of whom worked alongside Liz Cheney and formerly regarded her as a friend and colleague, can’t condemn this. It’s risky. “It’s getting worse,” she informed reporters.

A Trump campaign spokesperson responded by calling Cheney a “warmonger” and asserting that she is “quick to instigate conflicts and send other Americans to fight them, rather than go into battle themselves.”

In the House of Representatives, Cheney was formerly considered a rising star in the Republican Party. However, her harsh criticism of Trump’s unwillingness to recognize the results of the 2020 election led to her removal from a leadership position and subsequent loss of her Wyoming seat. Trump supported Harriet Hageman, her opponent in the 2022 House primary.

Cheney, who led the successful attempt to remove Trump from office a second time, declared last month that she would vote for Harris. In an attempt to win over moderate conservatives, she has appeared alongside the vice president several times. Having previously called Cheney a “Muslim-hating warmonger… who wants to invade practically every Muslim country on planet,” Trump has a lengthy history of disparaging her.
