Amorim planned to stay with Sporting until the end of the season before moving to Manchester United

Ruben Amorim had already chosen that this would be his last season at Sporting. He wanted to stay with the team until the end of the season before moving to Manchester United, but the club told him that wasn’t possible.

Amorim was named United’s new manager on Friday to take over for the fired Erik ten Hag. He will start working for the Premier League club on November 11, which is earlier than he had planned.

“I had a conversation with him at the start of the season, and the president is there to confirm it. I told him that no matter what happened, it would be my last season at Sporting,” Amorim told reporters after his team beat Estrela da Amadora 5-1.

As the season began, things began to go very well for us. United showed up, paid the clause, and went above and beyond the clause. The president also looked out for their best interests. I never talked about anything with the president.

“The only request I made was that it be at the end of the season and they told me that it was not possible, that it was now or never.”

Sporting revealed on Tuesday that United was interested in Amorim and was ready to pay his release clause, so the coach didn’t have much time to make a choice.

“I had three days to decide on something that completely changes my life,” he said.

“This isn’t the first time that another club has paid my clause. It’s really hard for me to leave. More to me than any Sporting fan.

“I told you I would stay for as many games as it took.” Because I couldn’t, I didn’t say anything before. That’s how the choice works. I knew that if I turned down the club, I wouldn’t have it in six months if I turned it down.

“And I knew that in six months I would know that I was not going to be at Sporting.”

After hearing that United was interested in Amorim, Sporting beat Nacional in the League Cup on Tuesday. The manager said that the news had an effect on his players.

Now that the news is out, Amorim is ready to do his best for Sporting in their last two games, which are against Manchester City in the Champions League on Tuesday and the league game at Braga.
