Putin says that Russia will react if the West lets Ukraine attack Russia hard

President Vladimir Putin stated on Sunday that Russia’s defense ministry was preparing several responses in case Ukraine is assisted by the United States and its NATO partners in launching long-range Western missile strikes deep into Russia.

Russian authorities claim that the war in Ukraine, which has been going on for two and a half years, is now entering its most hazardous phase and has sparked the worst conflict between Russia and the West since the end of the Cold War.

For weeks, Russia has warned the US and its allies that allowing Ukraine to launch an attack deep into Russian territory with missiles provided by the West would be viewed by Moscow as a significant escalation.

Putin stated on September 12 that Western support for the move would entail “the direct involvement of NATO countries, the United States and European countries in the war in Ukraine” as the missiles’ targeting and launching would need the participation of NATO military troops and infrastructure.

Although it was too soon to predict exactly how Russia would respond to such a move, Putin stated that Moscow would need to adjust its response and that several possibilities were being considered.

Putin told Russian state TV’s senior Kremlin correspondent Pavel Zarubin, “(The Russian defense ministry) is thinking about how to respond to the possible long-range strikes on Russian territory, it will offer a range of responses.”

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has been begging the West to let Kyiv fire Western missiles deep into Russia as Russia advances in eastern Ukraine at the quickest pace since the early months of the war.

ATTACKING RUSSIA

Although the US has not officially said if it will let Ukraine to attack Russia, several US officials are extremely doubtful that this would have a major impact on the outcome of the conflict.

Ukrainian soldiers already often use long-range drones to launch attacks deep into Russia.

Pro-Russian war bloggers claim that Russian soldiers have seized Selydove, a coal mining town in Ukraine’s Donetsk area, barely over a week after initially overrunning the town.

Putin portrays the conflict as a conflict between Russia and the waning West, which he claims disregarded Russia’s interests following the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991. In 2022, he ordered thousands more soldiers into Ukraine following eight years of combat in eastern Ukraine.

According to Ukraine and its Western supporters, Putin launched an imperialist war against its smaller neighbor and has stated again and time again that authoritarian nations across the world will feel more confident if Russia prevails in the conflict.

In what the Kremlin claimed was an effort to convey Russia’s apprehension over Western talks over missile strikes from Ukraine, Putin modified Russia’s nuclear policy just weeks before the U.S. presidential election.

Putin responded to Zarubin’s question on whether the West had heeded Russia’s warnings by saying, “I hope they have. Since we will undoubtedly need to make some judgments for ourselves as well.”

The real concern is “will they allow themselves to strike deep into Russian territory or not,” as Putin stated that only NATO personnel would be able to fire such weapons into Russia and that they would need to aim the weapons using Western satellite data. That’s the query.

According to U.S. authorities, the country has no intention of intensifying the fight.
It’s unknown how a next U.S. president would handle the conflict; Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris has stated she will continue to back Ukraine, while former President Donald Trump has declared he will put an end to the conflict in Ukraine.
