Yoon of South Korea and Duda of Poland both are against North Korea sending troops to Russia

According to Mr. Yoon’s office, on October 24, Polish President Andrzej Duda and South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol denounced North Korea’s deployment of troops to Russia for its conflict against Ukraine as a threat to international security.

During a joint news conference with Duda, Mr. Yoon stated that the two leaders had decided to strive for the finalization of a new deal to supply South Korean K-2 tanks to Poland by the end of the year.

Mr. Yoon stated, “We agreed that North Korea’s deployment of troops to Russia is a provocation that extends beyond the Korean Peninsula and Europe to threaten global security and is a direct violation of UN Security Council resolutions and the UN Charter.”

Following a briefing by the national intelligence agency, South Korean MPs announced on October 23 that North Korea had dispatched 3,000 troops to Russia to aid in its conflict against Ukraine. This estimate is double the previous one.

According to Yoon, the Polish and South Korean governments would actively work to reach an agreement before the year is out for South Korea’s Hyundai Rotem to provide Poland with K-2 tanks.

According to Mr. Yoon, Poland and South Korea will work closely together on security issues that impact both nations and create a new platform for defense discussion.

As Poland increases its military spending in reaction to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, South Korea, a new major arms exporter, has inked a framework agreement worth an estimated US$22 billion (S$29 billion) in 2022 to export mechanized howitzers, tanks, and fighter jets.
