Idris Elba intends to relocate to Africa in order to support the development of the film industry

Idris Elba is ready to move to Africa in order to concentrate on developing and advancing the indigenous film industry.

In order to help the African film industry, British actor and producer Idris Elba has declared his plan to relocate there within the next ten years.

The 52-year-old actor emphasized the need of Africans taking back control of their narratives on the international scene in an interview with reporters on Wednesday while attending the Africa Cinema Summit in Accra, Ghana. He stated that he intended to move to Africa within the next ten years, but he did not say where exactly.

Elba declared, “I would definitely consider settling down here; not even consider, it’s going to happen.” “God willing, I anticipate moving within the next five to ten years. I’m here to support the motion picture business.

“I’m going to live in Accra, I’m going to live in Freetown, the capital of Sierra Leone, and I’m going to live in Zanzibar,” Elba said, expressing his wish to reside in several different places throughout the continent. It’s crucial that they tell stories, so I’m going to try to go where they are.

He attacked the derogatory depictions of Africa in movies and the media, which frequently highlight trauma instead of highlighting the rich and varied lives of Africans.

“When you go to Africa, you will see that it is not true,” Elba continued. “If you watch any movie or anything that has to do with Africa, all you’re going to see is trauma, how we were slaves, how we were colonized, and how it is just war.”

The actor also highlighted the possibilities of locally produced stories by revealing his goal to one day shoot movies in a studio he intends to construct in Accra.

Elba revealed plans in March to transform Sierra Leone’s Sherbro Island into a “eco-friendly smart city.”

The Hollywood celebrity will also return to the legendary character that the well-known Nigerian actor Pete Edochie originally performed in the “Things Fall Apart” adaption.
