Egypt has been declared malaria-free by the WHO

Egypt was declared malaria-free by the World Health Organization on Sunday, bringing an end to a disease that had been there since antiquity.

Countries that have demonstrated beyond a reasonable doubt that the chain of indigenous malaria transmission by Anopheles mosquitoes has been broken for at least the last three years are certified by the WHO.

According to a WHO announcement, 44 nations and one territory worldwide have been given the status.
