Simba brings North African sides on group stage for CAFCC

Simba Sc of the Tanzania Premier League has been drawn to play in the group stage of the 2024/2025 TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup against two clubs from North Africa and one from the CECAFA Zone.

Simba SC was drawn into Group A along with CS Sfaxien (Tunisia), CS Constantine (Algeria), and FC Bravos of Angola on Tuesday in Cairo, Egypt, under the supervision of CAF Director of Competitions and Events, Samson Adamu.

Legends The draw was assisted by Al Hilal coach Florent Ibenge and former South African star Lawrence Siphiwe Dambuza Tshabalala.

In the second preliminary round, Simba SC defeated Al Ahli Tripoli of Libya 3-1 on goal aggregate to advance to the group round.

22 times on record Kenya Police and Rukinzo FC of Burundi both withdrew in the second preliminary round, leaving just Tanzania Premier League winners Simba SC to fly the CECAFA banner in the Zone.

Group B includes CD Lunda – Sul FC, Stellenbosch FC (South Africa), Stade Malien (Mali), and former champions RS Berkane (Morocco). Group C consists of USM Alger (Algeria), ASEC Mimosa (Ivory Coast), and ASC Jaraaf (Senegal).

The current champion, Zamalek of Egypt, who just won the CAF Super Cup, is grouped in Group D with Al Masry of Egypt, Enyimba FC of Nigeria, and Black Bulls FC of Mozambique.

The latter week of November 2024 is when the group stage is scheduled to begin.
