Three dead and fifteen hurt in a stabbing spree at a Shanghai Walmart

Three people have died and fifteen have been hurt in a stabbing spree at a Walmart in Shanghai, China.

At a Walmart store in Shanghai on Monday night, three people were killed and fifteen were hurt in a stabbing spree. A man named Lin, 37 years old, was arrested at the scene. He told police that he had come to Shanghai to “vent his anger due to a personal economic dispute.”

The attack happened in Songjiang, a district in the southwest of the city with a lot of people and a number of colleges. Three of the victims died from their injuries at the hospital, but cops said that the injuries to the others were not life-threatening.

People who were there said it was a crazy and scary scene inside the mall. She said, “There was blood everywhere.” Shi owned a jewelry store in the Ludu International Commercial Plaza. He talked about the scary times when SWAT officers and firefighters rushed into the mall and told people to leave.

Shi said, “No one had ever been through something like this, and we weren’t mentally ready for it.” He also said that he barely avoided being attacked.

After what happened, it looks like conversations on Chinese social media were shut down. When the Walmart store reopened on Tuesday, there was more protection in place.

Though China doesn’t allow guns, there have been more knife strikes in the last few months. In August, a 10-year-old Japanese student was fatally stabbed near his school in southern China. Earlier this year, there were several violent stabbings, including one in Jilin that targeted four US college professors and another in Yunnan province that happened at a hospital.

The attack on Monday is still being looked into.
